Luxair, the national carrier of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has begun a major modernization of its fleet with the arrival of its first Embraer E195-E2 regional jet.
The aircraft, registered as LX-LEA, marks the company’s return to operating models from the Brazilian manufacturer after nearly a decade.

The new jet will be a central component of Luxair’s expansion and renewal strategy, gradually replacing the De Havilland Q400 turboprops. The commercial debut of the E195-E2 is scheduled for April 2026 on the Luxembourg–Alicante route, strengthening the airline’s offer on leisure destinations and routes with strong seasonal demand.
Efficiency, sustainability, and increased capacity

The Embraer E195-E2 delivers significant improvements compared to the Q400. According to the airline, fuel consumption is about one-third lower, while noise levels have been reduced by 35%, enabling quieter and more sustainable operations — an important factor at European airports with strict noise restrictions.
With seating for 136 passengers and a range of up to 4,815 kilometres, the new jet allows Luxair to expand its network and explore new medium-haul routes across the continent.
Expanded order and the revival of a historic partnership

The arrival of LX-LEA is part of a total order of six E195-E2 aircraft — originally four, later expanded — with additional options for three more units, according to the company.
The delivery carries symbolic value for Luxair, marking the revival of a long-standing cooperation with Embraer. Over the years, the airline has operated models such as the EMB-120 Brasília and the ERJ-145; the last aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer left Luxair’s fleet in 2016.
With the introduction of the E195-E2, Luxair strengthens its strategy of modernization, efficiency, and growth, while Embraer further consolidates its presence among Europe’s regional carriers.
